Physical Therapy
University Orthopedics
operates an expansive Physical Therapy clinic to
insure its patients have seamless continuity of care
from injury through recovery. Conveniently located
in the group’s main office complex at the Erlanger
Medical Mall, the department is staffed by skilled
and experienced Physical Therapists and Therapy
Technicians. Each patient referred to the PT
department by a University Orthopedic surgeon
receives an initial comprehensive assessment by a
staff Physical Therapist, who along with the
patient’s orthopedic surgeon then develops a
personalized “care plan” specific to the patient’s
individual needs.
The department’s Chief Therapist
is responsible for monitoring the progress of each
patient in relation to their individual “care plan”,
working directly under the supervision of the
patient’s attending orthopedist, who is only a few
steps away. The Physical Therapy Department does not
accept referrals from physicians other than those
affiliated with University Orthopedics, allowing the
department staff to focus solely on the treatment
and rehabilitation of University Orthopedics
patients, insuring optimal continuity of care.
The department staff also
provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for
non-operative patients, patients with chronic bone
and joint ailments as well as those who have
experienced occupational injuries. The department is
well equipped with biomedical devices and
rehabilitation apparatus to support treatment of
patients with injuries ranging from minor sprains to
post-traumatic recoveries.
Services provided within
the Physical Therapy department are usually covered
by the many healthcare insurance plans and provider
networks of which University Orthopedics is a
“participating provider”. Most healthcare insurance
plans, however, place benefit limitations on covered
PT services, and usually require some type of
“pre-authorization” by the health insurance plan
before actual treatment may begin. The staff of the
Physical Therapy department, in conjunction with the
group’s Business Office and Scheduling personnel,
are well-prepared to assist you with any
“pre-authorization” or “benefit determination”
issues.
All initial appointments
for PT visits are arranged at the group’s Main
Appointment Desk with subsequent visits scheduled by
PT assistants, to accommodate the patient’s personal
calendar and demands.
Maintaining scheduled
appointments for physical therapy is essential to
obtaining the desired rehabilitative outcomes
anticipated by your physician and therapist when
they developed your “care plan”. If your are unable
to maintain a scheduled appointment, you should call
the PT Department in advance of the appointment, so
that the staff may re-schedule your visit as soon as
possible, avoiding harmful interruption to your
rehabilitation progress. For additional information,
call 423.267.4585 and ask to be transferred
to the Physical Therapy Department. |
